Police recovered the body of a woman from a canal in Scottsdale on March 28, authorities said.
About 8 a.m., someone walking along the Arizona Canal near Indian Bend and Hayden roads called 911 after spotting a body floating in the water, according to Officer Aaron Bolin, spokesperson for the Scottsdale Police Department.

Police and fire crews responded and worked with the Salt River Project and the Central Arizona Project to remove the body from the canal by about 11:30 a.m., Bolin said.
The body was identified only as an adult woman, Bolin said. Due to the body's condition, investigators were unable to immediately determine whether the woman had suffered traumatic injuries.
Detectives are working to identify the woman and determine how she ended up in the canal. The investigation remains in its early stages and the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, police said.
