WhatsApp has always been considerate towards the privacy of the user and has released multiple features for the betterment of the same. Now, in a recent development, it has been revealed that the Meta-owned instant messaging platform could bring a privacy feature that will automatically delete messages shortly after they are read. The upcoming feature dubbed 'After Reading' has made its appearance on the latest Android beta version of the application, as reported by WABetaInfo.

As per the report, the new tool will let users have more control over their WhatsApp chats, making it a faster and more secure way to share sensitive messages. ,And the core functionality of the feature is pretty clear with the name itself. Once activated, a message will disappear automatically after the recipient reads it.

Furthermore, the report also mentioned that WhatsApp will begin a 15-minute countdown after the message is opened, and once the timer ends, it will be deleted from both the sender's and receiver's chats. Apart from that, if the message is not opened at all, it will stay there in the chat for 24 hours, after which it will expire automatically. The feature was found in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.12.2.

As of now, messages on WhatsApp usually remain in the chat unless they are manually removed or sent using disappearing messages.
