#Champs2026: KC’s Itubo breaks second Champs record, rewriting 19-year mark

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Kingston College’s Julius Itubo broke his second record of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships after he erased Waqar daCosta’s 19-year-old record in the Class 3 800m with 1:57.52 in the final on Saturday.

Itubo, who had broken the Class 3 1500m record earlier in the championships, beat daCosta’s 1:58.06 minutes set in 2007.

Two Jamaica College athletes finished behind him— Ajovi Williams took the silver medal with 1:58.54 minutes, and Rickardo Lee got the bronze medal with 1:59.43 minutes.

Edwin Allen’s Joel Morgan upgraded his silver medal from last year to gold, running a personal best 1:49.93 minutes to hold off Kiile Reid of STETHS, who ran 1:50.90 minutes, and Malike Anderson of Edwin Allen took third with 1:51.31 minutes.

Denbigh High’s Markland Williams, who failed to get past the semi-finals last year, won the Class 2 800m gold medal, running 1:52.58 minutes, beating Cavel Nooks of Jamaica College, who ran 1:54.21 minutes and Ratieo Walters of Titchfield High, who finished in 1:55.45 minutes.
