A man is due in court after a reported "stabbing" in Tuebrook over the weekend. At around 7.50am on Sunday, April 5 Merseyside Police were called to reports of an altercation. It's understood a man was stabbed at the junction of Preston Grove and Rocky Lane in Tuebrook.

Police give update after 'stabbing' in Tuebrook

People living in the area contacted the ECHO to say police were going door to door canvassing for CCTV and further information due to a "serious incident" nearby. One person said a violent incident on the street was captured on their CCTV and that it looked like one man had stabbed another. When the ECHO arrived, the street was blocked off, and two police cars were parked up while forensic officers collected evidence.

What appeared to be a bright blue hat was lying on the floor next to an evidence marker. Workers in white coveralls were also checking purple bins in the street. One woman who lived near the scene said she heard two men fighting between 7am and 8am.

She told the ECHO: “They woke me up screaming. I looked out my window and I saw another neighbour speaking to them. I heard him say to one of them sit down you’ve got blood on your arm. "

It sounded like he’d been stabbed in the arm. Another woman walking past said she was going to call the police and they both ran away. It’s normal to hear people fighting around this area.

I don’t go out at certain times because of it.” Police arrested four men in connection with the incident. A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of s18 wounding with intent and possession of a knife blade/sharply pointed article in a public place, a 36 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of s18 wounding with intent, a 26 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of s18 wounding with intent, and a 43 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of s18 wounding with intent.

Philip McCabe, 26, of Preston Grove, Liverpool, was later charged with Section 18 – attempt wounding with intent and possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article in a public place. He appeared at Liverpool Magistrate's Court yesterday, Tuesday April 7 and has been remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, May 4. The other three men have been released with no further action.

At this stage nobody has come forward or presented themselves at hospital with injuries, and enquiries are ongoing to trace the victim, police say.
