60-y-o accused of stabbing granddaughter admonished and discharged after mediation

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 60-year-old woman accused of stabbing her granddaughter during a confrontation in June 2024 was admonished and discharged on Tuesday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court following successful mediation.

The accused was discharged after she made a payment of $350,000 to the complainant, who indicated that she did not wish to proceed with the matter.

Allegations are that, on June 10, 2024, Plummer, who is a vendor, reportedly stabbed her granddaughter during a confrontation in the downtown Kingston shopping district.

The incident reportedly followed a verbal dispute, during which Plummer allegedly used abusive language and threatened to have her granddaughter harmed.

Plummer, who was initially charged with unlawful wounding following the 2024 brawl, was also charged with attempting to sway a Crown witness, after she reportedly tried to convince the complainant not to proceed further with the matter.

She pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Parish Judge Alicia McIntosh told both women that the matter had been before the court for far too long and should not have taken nearly two years to resolve.

“Ladies, this matter has been before the court for a long time. The incident that occurred caused you to be before the court, but you have spent from 2024 until now before the court to resolve the issue. In fact, after that, you went ahead and were charged for something else.

This should not be a pattern. There is no guarantee that the next time you are charged with an offence it will end with you simply paying money and leaving, or that the next complainant will be so patient as to wait from 2024 to 2026 to get satisfaction,” Judge McIntosh said.
