KINGSTON, Jamaica — Vere Technical’s Ramona Freemantle booked her spot in a second final on the first day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium after she led the qualifying for the girls Class 1 discus throw with 48.32m.

Freemantle, who was fifth in the final last year with 48.21m, had already booked a spot in the girls Open Javelin throw and needed a second throw in the discus after fouling her first effort.

Three others needed just one throw to get an automatic spot— Abigail Bennett of Merl Grove High with 46.39m, Marla-Kay Lampart of Clarendon College with 46.24m and Gabriel Merchant, also of Vere Technical with 46.06m.

Dionjah Shaw of Edwin Allen High with 45.42m, Jada Francis of Immaculate Conception with 44.75m and Rehanna Biggs of St Jago High with 43.19m also advanced.
