A police officer allegedly fired his gun at a suspect during a domestic assault call Monday night at a Kansas City, North, apartment complex, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a news release. No one was struck by gunfire.

The gunfire occurred while Kansas City police officers responded to a reported domestic assault shortly after 8:35 p.m. at the Parvin Estates apartments and town homes in the 4100 block of North Wheeling Avenue, according to the highway patrol, which is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
A preliminary investigation found that multiple officers arrived shortly before 8:50 p.m. at the complex and knocked on the door of a home, but there was no response. Shortly after, officers heard a female victim yell for help from inside. She then exited the home and was treated for her injuries.
Officers confronted a person just inside the front door. He ran out the back door, where another officer met him, causing him to retreat back inside. Police said that around 9:05 p.m., the person allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and an officer fired at him.
The person was not struck and was arrested. No officers were injured, according to the highway patrol.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the officer-involved shooting, while Kansas City police are investigating the alleged domestic assault. Once the highway patrol is finished with its investigation, it will submit its reports to the Clay County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
