Nancy Guthrie's abductor may have stalked her home weeks before that fateful Saturday night, according to a former FBI agent.
Authorities have yet to obtain breakthrough evidence in the Nancy Guthrie case, as the search approaches its second month. However, former FBI agent Maureen O'Connell's theory about the abductor could be a missing link in the investigation.

In his March 19 YouTube podcast, journalist Brian Entin said Guthrie's neighbours have been asking about surveillance videos from January 11 and 24, two weekends before she was reported missing. Guthrie was last spotted on January 31 at her Tucson home.
All of those dates fell on Saturdays, Entin noted. 'If I'm doing an op[eration], and I'm gonna do it on a Saturday night, then I'm gonna do dry runs on Saturday nights,' O'Connell responded. 'I wanna know what it's like. What lights are on? Is she generally home?
Does she stay up late? Is she watching TV?' Guthrie's Abduction Involved Weeks of PreparationO'Connell said the abductor was likely 'casing' Guthrie's house, weeks before her abduction.
That also suggests that the abductor isn't related to Guthrie, or was not familiar with what goes on inside her home.' The more you think about this, about someone having to case this house, the less likely it seems that it would be a family member because they would probably already know all this information, right?' ' she explained. 'I would say they were casing the place and doing a dry run for a Saturday evening hit.' Footage from a doorbell camera captured a masked figure near Guthrie's house, around the time she disappeared.
The home showed signs of a struggle, and the blood drops on the front steps, porch, and driveway match Guthrie's DNA, suggesting she was injured during abduction.
One FBI expert said Guthrie's case is 'a personal kind of crime,' based on the abductor's behaviour. 'There is some grievance out there that is trying to play itself out,' according to Ann Burgess, a former FBI criminal profiler.' It doesn't appear to be random behaviour,' she added. 'The individual seems to have a purpose for being there. If someone intends to break into a home, there are simpler methods.'
Abductor's Motive and Activity QuestionedSimilar to O'Connell's, another theory suggests that the abductor may have lingered inside Guthrie's home. Lawyer Lee on YouTube noted the timeline of events, which included a questionable 40-minute window.
The doorbell camera stopped recording at around 1:47am, Lee noted, and there was movement detected at the property at 2:12am. Nancy Guthrie's pacemaker signal was cut 16 minutes later.' From the time [the doorbell camera] was disconnected, the intruder was presumably in the house for 40 minutes.
That's a really long time. What was the person doing?' Lee asked. 'If this was a kidnapping, that is really strange.
How long would it take a man to subdue an 84 year old woman in fragile health? The whole length of time is very odd and I can't explain that.' With Few New Leads, Investigation Faces CriticismDetectives have been interviewing residents about construction workers who were working in the area.
Forensics are still analysing the mixed DNA trace found in Guthrie's home.
Meanwhile, there's mounting dissatisfaction about the investigation. Critics are calling to recall Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who's been in charge of the case since day one.
