Neil DeGrasse Tyson enjoyed a night out in New York City with his rarely seen children. He attended the Project Hail Mary premiere and walked the red carpet alongside his son Travis Tyson, 25, and daughter Miranda Tyson, 34, whom he shares with his wife since 1986, Alice Young. Travis was a splitting image of Neil as he donned a black polo shirt with red and white stripes, brown pants and black leather shoes.

The astrophysicist wore a colorful light jacket which was decorated with abstract art, along with black pants and a black cap. Miranda sported a floor-length navy blue dress with gold imagery throughout, black leather shoes and brown shades.
In October 2025, Neil attended the Good Fortune red carpet alongside his son as well. Neil was seen wearing a blue button-up shirt with a suede black shirt on top, gray jeans, black pants, and a black suede hat, as Travis donned a black shirt and blazer with beige pants. About his son Travis took after his father's interests and attended Stuyvesant High School.
Later on he graduated from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where he majored in social justice and political psychology. He also tutored students in K-12 in math and chess through the Big Sib Tutors program. About his daughter Miranda also took after her father and attended the competitive Bronx High School of Science.
She later attended Harvard University where she studied East Asian studies. Post graduation in 2018, she began studying at the Relay Graduate School of Education from which she earned a master's degree. Miranda went on to become a special education teacher who taught at the High School of Arts and Technology.
She currently works at the City University of New York's Advanced Science Research Center as a program administrator. Neil's family ties When it comes to how Neil likes to spend his downtime, it's close to home. He shared with The Washington Post: "
My perfect day is I stay home with my wife and kids. I would also drink great wine and have great meals with friends and family." In 2017, the Tyson family came together to compete on Celebrity Family Feud against Rick Fox's family.
The Tysons won $25,000 and provided the prize to a charity of their choice. Neil's education Neil attended The Bronx High School of Science and then Harvard, just like his daughter did decades later. After Harvard, he earned his master's degree from the University of Texas where he studied astronomy.
Next he attended Columbia University and earned a doctorate in astrophysics. After that he held a postdoctoral research position for three years at Princeton University.
