#Champs2026: Riquelme Reid’s sprint double dream ends with injury

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Excelsior High’s Riquelme Reid’s dream of a Class 1 sprint double ended Thursday after he pulled up in the first round of the 200m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.
Reid had run a personal best 10.12 seconds to win the 100m final on Wednesday and was expected to complete the double on Saturday’s final day of the five-day championships.
He had a wind-legal season’s best 20.95 seconds, second only to William Knibb’s Sanjay Seymore, the defending champion, who secured his semi-final place by winning his heat in 21.03 seconds (-1.5m/s).
Meanwhile, St George’s College’s 100m silver medallist Tyreese Foreman-21.18 seconds (-1.3m/s) and Edwin Allen High’s Romario Finnigan, the bronze medallist, who ran 21.31 seconds (-1.5m/s), also made progress along with Junior Gallimore of Hydel High, Jamaica College’s Omary Robinson, Holland High’s Johan-Ramaldo Smythe and Green Island’s Oshane Jervis.
