Russia Weighs In on Iran War as Trump's Latest Deadline Looms

Russian officials said Tuesday that there needed to be "an immediate cessation of hostilities" in the Persian Gulf, as the latest deadline from the U.S. for Iran to agree to a deal to end the war loomed. The statement from Russia's Foreign Ministry, following a call between Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, of Russia and the United Arab Emirates, respectively, as Russia voted against a resolution to reopen the Strait of Hormuz at the U.N. Security Council, alongside China. ”

The Ministers held a[n] in-depth exchange of views on the ongoing unprecedented escalation of the military-political situation in the Persian Gulf area," the Russian ministry said in a statement shared to Telegram. ”

They stressed the importance of an immediate cessation of hostilities, which are causing loss of life and inflicting serious damage on vital civilian infrastructure, including in countries not taking part in the armed confrontation."
