Lawmaker distributes food, launches welfare scheme in Oyo

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency of Oyo State under the All Progressives Congress, Remi Oseni, on Sunday, distributed food items to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, women, and widows, and officially launched a Food Bank and Asoludaro Market initiative for residents of the state.

The distribution took place during the inauguration of the programme titled “The Remi Asoludero Food Bank and Asoludero Market” at his constituency office in Ologuneru, Ibadan, Ido Local Government Area.

Oseni explained that for over 15 years, his foundation has been committed to impacting lives, noting, “It is not a campaign — it is my way of life. In fact, giving is my ministry.”

He stated that the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope and Economic Rebirth Agenda, aimed at restoring stability and economic growth in the country.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency said, “The initiative provides a wide range of food items at subsidised rates, as well as free food for the needy, including the elderly, widows, single mothers, and others in difficult circumstances.

“It also includes lifetime food assistance for individuals who, due to physical challenges, are unable to cater for themselves, under the Remi Oseni Foundation for Better Life and Youth Empowerment — a humanitarian programme designed to ensure that no vulnerable member of our community goes to bed hungry.

“For me, this is not about politics; it is about humanity. My journey of giving did not begin with politics, and it will not end with politics.

“By the grace of God, we have consistently supported students, empowered women, assisted widows, and stood by the vulnerable.

“Today, we are strengthening that commitment by establishing a structured, transparent, and sustainable system that will provide consistent food support to widows, the elderly, orphans, single parents, and those in need.

“When families are supported, children focus better in school, homes experience stability, and communities grow stronger.”

He emphasised that the initiative was non-political, non-religious, and open to all eligible beneficiaries, while calling on individuals and organisations to support the programme.

“Together, we can build a society where kindness is institutionalised. This is more than a project — it is a legacy. This is more than food — it is dignity. No one should go to bed hungry,” he added.
