A warning has been issued to children and parents in a Midland town after reports of youngsters dangerously throwing objects off bridges at passing vehicles. The potentially deadly incidents have been reported in the Staffordshire town of Burntwood with ‘increased reports’ in recent days. Staffordshire Police has said its officers have visited sites in the Lichfield District suburb.

But have also posted signs up on the bridges saying not only is the activity ‘extremely dangerous’ it could also lead to the guilty parties getting a criminal record. The Staffordshire force has issued a warning to parents and carers urging them to speak to their kids and said if anyone is caught in the act they will be ‘robustly dealt with’.

In a warning posted online, a Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “Due to a recent increase in reports of children throwing stones from bridges in the Burntwood area at passing motorists, we have visited the offending locations in order to try and find the culprits.

“We have placed signs up at the bridges reminding people that throwing anything at cars is not only extremely dangerous, but also a criminal offence.

“Parents, please speak to your children about the dangers and consequences of throwing things from bridges and always know where your children are!

“We will be actively patrolling these locations at the material times and any offenders found will be robustly dealt with.”
