During installation, the EPS wire harness ground connection may have been re-installed incorrectly. This may cause a poor electrical contact, potentially resulting in a sudden loss of power steering assist whilst driving.

“A loss of power steering assist whilst driving, could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users." Toyota Australia said it is aware of one customer affected by the issue, who presented safely to a dealer, where the recall was actioned. The carmaker will contact affected owners to book an appointment at an official dealer to inspect the vehicle and rectify it if needed for free.

The HiLux is Toyota's most popular model in Australia and managed nearly 50,000 sales last year. It has continued this momentum into 2026, having already managed nearly 9000 sales up to March.
