Historic triple jump silver for Scott at World Indoors

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jordan Scott created history on Friday when he became the first Jamaican man to earn a medal in the triple jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships when he took the silver medal with a season’s best 17.33m at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena in Toruń, Poland.

Scott improved on his fourth-place finish from last year in Nanjing, China, and produced a brilliant series as he etched his name in Jamaican track and field history in only his second competitive outing this year.

Scott, who was also fifth at last year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, gradually improved on his first three jumps, starting with 17.29m, then going to 17.30m, then 17.33m before fouling his fourth jump.

He also produced another big 17.31m jump in the fifth round and then 16.88m in the final round.

Italy’s Andy Diaz Hernandez won with a world-leading 17.47m while Algeria’s Yasser Mohammed Triki was third with 17.30m.
