US doubles it's planned area for deep sea mining in the Pacific
In a blow to local opponents of seabed mining, the United States has doubled the area it's considering opening up for deep sea mining in one of its Pacific territories. The area under consideration in the Northern Mariana Islands has now been expanded to sixty nine million acres.
