Some rooms feel historic the moment you walk into them. On Friday, March 13 (2026), the Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills became exactly that kind of space as entertainment mogul Mona Scott-Young convened an intimate yet powerful gathering of women across entertainment, leadership, and culture to celebrate the extraordinary legacy of industry pioneer Suzanne de Passe, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, Academy Award–nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe, ‘Afro Unicorn’ CEO April Showers, Raegan Brown, and Fashion Designer Kara Saun.

The event, titled the MPowered Maverick Celebration, brought together influential women and rising leaders for a Women’s History Month gathering rooted in connection, mentorship, and recognition of the trailblazers who have paved the way.
Hosted by Scott-Young, the afternoon centered around a special “MPowered Moment” conversation with de Passe, whose groundbreaking career as a producer and executive helped shape the modern entertainment industry. From her early days at Motown to producing iconic television and film projects, de Passe’s influence spans generations.
The room reflected that legacy. Among the notable attendees were Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, Grammy-nominated singer Tyrese Gibson, singer Chanté Moore, renowned casting director Leah Daniels, Actress LisaRaye McCoy, Jason Lee, Kandi Burruss, Ben Crump, Yo-Yo, Torrei Hart and actress Rhonda Morman, among other leaders in entertainment and media.
Scott-Young opened the afternoon with heartfelt remarks honoring de Passe’s impact.
“Because of Suzanne, generations of creators and executives have been able to walk through the hallways and those doors after her,” Scott-Young said. “Suzanne, your vision changed industries. Your courage reshaped opportunities, and your leadership continues to inspire generations of mavericks who will follow in your footsteps.”
She continued by reflecting on the personal inspiration she has drawn from de Passe’s career.
“I have personally been inspired by the limitless way you have navigated your career,” Scott-Young told the audience. “I could never in a million years hope to step or walk in the shadow you created, but I hope as you look around and see the women coming behind you that we are making you proud. You represent the idea that anything and everything is possible.”
Visibly moved by the tribute, de Passe shared that the moment came together quickly.
“Mona called me only a few days ago and asked if I was available and interested in having a conversation with her while other fabulous women were in the room,” she said with a laugh.
Reflecting on the surprise celebration, she added, “I feel grateful. I feel bamboozled. I feel happy.”
During the conversation, de Passe also offered wisdom for the next generation of women leaders in the room, including Congresswoman Crockett, whose rising national profile has made her a powerful voice in politics.
“I’m so honored to be here with you, Jasmine Crockett. It takes guts, belief, passion, and patience,” de Passe said. “Because when your passion gives up, your patience must kick in. And when your patience gives out, your passion must invigorate again.”
Closing her remarks, de Passe left the room with a powerful reflection on what continues to drive her decades into a groundbreaking career.
“Standing here, I’m so happy to report that many dreams are still abundant in my head and are the fuel and the energy that keeps me going,” she said.
The event was presented by Monami Entertainment in collaboration with sponsor Kara Saun, founder of The Fashion Fairy Godmother and executive producer of Sunset Pictures.
As the room buzzed with conversation and celebration, one theme resonated throughout the afternoon: honoring the pioneers who opened the doors—and ensuring the next generation walks confidently through them.
TV/Film Director, Producer, and Writer Princess Monique Filmz said the event left a lasting impression on her as a filmmaker.
“The MPowered Maverick Celebration was truly inspiring- an incredible gathering of visionary women and industry leaders celebrating impact, legacy, and leadership,” Filmz said. “Honoring Suzanne De Passe was especially meaningful; she represents brilliance, grace, and a powerful blueprint for excellence in entertainment. Being in that room was a beautiful reminder of the trailblazers who opened doors and the responsibility we all have to keep pushing them wider.”
