Suspect Arrested After Molotov Cocktail Attack at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Home

A suspect allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the San Francisco home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Friday morning. According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the North Beach area at approximately 4:12 a.m. The device caused a fire to an exterior gate, but no injuries were reported. The suspect fled the scene on foot following the incident.

Shortly after the initial event, police responded to a business located on the 1400 block of 3rd Street at 5:07 a.m. Authorities stated that the same suspect allegedly threatened to burn down that building. The headquarters of OpenAI are situated at 1455 3rd Street in San Francisco.

Law enforcement officials arrested the 20-year-old male suspect based on probable cause. While the individual is currently in custody, the investigation into both the residential attack and the threats made against the business remains ongoing. The identity of the suspect has not been released to the public at this time.

An OpenAI spokesperson addressed the situation in a statement, noting that the company is cooperating with local authorities. Early this morning, someone threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's home and also made threats at our San Francisco headquarters, the spokesperson said. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

There is no indication that Sam Altman, his family, or any OpenAI employees were physically impacted by the events. The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody following the two separate incidents.
