Inspiring man serves his community despite his disability

Many consider having a disability will limit what a person can do. However, a disabled man named Elmer Obias proved that he could jump over the boundaries even without using his feet. Aside from helping himself get up, he also supported in the betterment of his community.

Back then, Elmer lived a life full of self-pity as he worked in the day to provide the needs of his family in Camarines Sur. Fortunately, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) gave him an opportunity to use his abilities. At that moment, he became the chairman of an important project for his former school, Matacla Elementary School.

Although many still doubted his ability, he took this as a challenge instead.

Since then, the Elmer who pitied himself has transformed into a brand-new person. He developed confidence and great communication skills with others. Moreover, Elmer also became the voice of the PWD organization in their area. According to him:

Kailangan mong magbahagi.

Definitely, Elmer served as an inspiration to fellow PWDs that when it comes to helping, one doesn’t need huge money or normal body. Disability can never really define a person on what he can or cannot achieve.

Many people online got inspired by his dedication and kindness. Here are some of their comments:

Youtube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3yJjqOpsbg&t=36sStory: http://www.fo5.dswd.gov.ph/2017/07/17/3057/#SamaSamangPagkilosNangMayMalasakit #DSWDKalahiCIDSS #DSWDMayMalasakit #DSWDParaSaNakararami
